On March 25, 2016, the IRS sent my husband his $15.15 income tax refund check.

On April 8, 2016, the IRS sent me an ERRONEOUS income tax refund check in the amount of $420.27. Never mind that I had already stated in my income tax return that I OWED the IRS money not the IRS OWED me money. How WEIRD!!!

On April 11, 2016, the IRS sent me a statement explaining why they had issued me the income tax refund check and notified me that I had to send a reply back to them stating whether or not I agreed or disagreed with their “ADJUSTED REFUND”.

To begin with, this statement is supposed to be sent to me BEFORE not AFTER they sent the ERRONEOUS income tax refund check to me. How WEIRD!!!

Next, their explanation of how they got the adjusted refund did NOT make any sense since it stated that I made $858.27 in payments. When I had only made $438.00 in payments. How WEIRD!!!

Finally, their explanation of how they got the adjusted refund did NOT make any sense because it stated that I wrote on line 64 that $420.27 income tax was withheld, implying that I earn wages when I do not work. On line 64 I made a mistake and wrote $420.27 on it. Afterwards, I completely scribbled it out. So, it was obvious to a two-year old that there was no amount posted on line 64. How WEIRD!!!

On May 13, 2016, I wrote a letter to the IRS regarding their so-called ADJUSTED REFUND. The following is an excerpt from it:

“I write to inform you that I received a refund check in the amount of $420.27 via mail from your IRS office. I lit a box match to one corner of it, burned it up, turned on the cold water knob of the faucet, and washed its ashes down my kitchen sink drain. Go ahead and cancel the $420.27 refund check you issued to me if you don’t believe me. It was, is, and will never ever be presented for payment by me, nor do I grant anyone else authority to present it for payment”.

If I had cashed the erroneous Income Tax Refund Check the IRS sent me, then I woulda, shoulda, coulda been in arrears of my taxes because I did owe $438.00 to the IRS and since doing so will mean I earn income from sources that withhold federal income taxes when I don’t.

[Reader’s Note: Tax Arrears means you did not pay your taxes and so not only owe the IRS taxes but also penalties incurred for not paying them].
